La Zanja

About

This is a personal blog where I write about various topics that interest me. As the internet becomes increasingly filled with AI-generated content, being able to read things written entirely by human hands will only become rarer.

In Spanish a zanja is a ditch or trench. The Spanish and Mexicans built zanjas and acequias to transport water throughout the southwestern US between the 17th and 19th centuries, some of which continue to be used today. Indigenous people such as the Hohokam and their predecessors constructed networks of irrigation canals in the region as early as 1200 BC. As these old zanjas once (and still do) distributed water to ranchos and pueblos, this site distributes my thoughts to the public.
